2026 Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program
The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps eligible, low-income Navajo households living on the reservation pay their primary source of heating or cooling costs or with weatherizing their home to make it more energy efficient.
Application Priorities
Priority will be given to eligible applicants in the following order:
- At least one eligible household member who is 60 years old and receiving disability income or has a disability that is verified by a physician or a federal agency
- At least one eligible household member who is receiving disability income or has a disability that is verified by a physician or a federal agency
- At least one eligible household member with young children who are five (5) years or younger
Please note that eligibility does not guarantee assistance as limited funds are available for LIHEAP.
Required Documentation
Before you begin filling out the application, gather the required documents and be prepared to upload an electronic copy as part of this application (photos of physical documents are acceptable).
To determine your eligibility for assistance, verification is required for the items below. All documents must have matching names on your CIB, Social Security Card, W-9, and State ID/Driver’s License. If you do not provide all required documentation, your application will be denied.
Your application will not be accepted or processed without the required documents:
- Valid State Issued Driver’s License/ID – (Applicant)
- Social Security Card – (All Household Members; names must match this application)
- Certificate of Indian Blood – (All Household Members)
- Income Verification, including assistance from TANF, General Assistance, Social Security, SNAP/Food Stamps, etc. – (All Household Members)
- Proof of Residency – Chapter Verification (Applicant)
- Weatherization Only – Need three (3) current quotes from vendors
- If your name has changed, a marriage license or divorce certificate is required – (Applicant)
- Current W-9 Form – (Applicant) After submitting this application, you will be re-directed to fill out a W-9 Form online; your name must match on this LIHEAP application, the W-9, and required Social Security Card.
