Press Release

  • The Navajo Nation Arizona Long Term Care Services program hosted the third quarterly meeting with the Tribal Arizona Long Term Care Services (ALTCS) Program on April 16, 2026. The Tribal ALTCS works with tribes to provide access to culturally appropriate health care services for eligible elderly and/or physically disabled tribal members.

The gathering included managerial teams from tribes that have Intergovernmental Agreements with the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) to deliver services for eligible American Indians in the state. Tribes that have agreements include Gila River Indian Community, Hopi, Navajo Nation, Pascua Yaqui, San Carlos Apache, Tohono O’Odham Nation, and White Mountain Apache.

The quarterly meeting gives the tribes the opportunity to hear from state AHCCCS officials on updates to the Tribal ALTCS Program and review policy and procedural changes. The tribes are also able to provide feedback to AHCCCS on how to best serve their community members.

Freida White, Arizona Long Term Care Services Program Manager for the Navajo Nation, explained that the tribes heard updates on new audit forms that the programs will have to implement. This is especially important for the Navajo Nation because the nation must submit a quarter of its approximately 1,400 cases each quarter for audit.

The tribes also received technical assistance from the Tribal ALTCS during the meeting.

“It is the tribes exercising sovereignty and delivering case management services as they see fit using language, culture, and traditions,” White said.

The quarterly meeting with the tribes also allows for them to network with each other, she added.

The Navajo ALTCS provides long term case management services for Arizona Medicaid recipients who are elderly and physically disabled.
