GALLUP – The Navajo Division for Children and Family Services (NDCFS) celebrated National Skilled Nursing Care Week with Miss Navajo Nation 2025-26 Camille J. Uentillie and Gallup Nursing and Rehabilitation on May 13, 2026.
Gallup Nursing and Rehabilitation held a frybread contest with Miss Navajo in front of its facility. Residents were able to enjoy the fresh air while eating some of the treats as the contest took place.
The theme for National Skilled Nursing Care Week is, “Moments in Bloom,” highlighting how everyday acts of kindness grow into meaningful experiences. The week recognizes the essential role of skilled nursing centers for elders and people with disabilities and celebrates their staff, residents and families.

“The Navajo Division for Children and Family Services thanks those who provide essential services for our grandmas and grandpas and relatives with disabilities,” said NDCFS Executive Director Thomas Cody. “Our programs work with skilled nursing centers to make sure that eligible individuals are able to receive services.”
Under the NDCFS, the Department of Family Services contracts with skilled nursing centers for placement as appropriate. The Developmental Disabilities Program and Navajo Arizona Long Term Care Services provide case management for eligible individuals to deliver long term care with several skilled nursing centers.
